Helleborus Orientalis often known as Lenten Rose(as it blooms in early spring and resembles a small single rose) is flowering once more in my garden. I thought I had lost it to the fierce heat of the summer before last as it didn’t appear last spring. So I am overjoyed to see it has returned, and share it with you here together with Andy Wade’s poem entitled ‘Lenten Prose’:

Lenten Rose
breaking through winter’s crust
head bowed
facing earth
fertile soil
from whence you sprang
humble beauty
calling us
to bow our heads
remembering
from dust
were we created
to dust
we shall return
